In Memoriam Paul Allen – Portland Art Museum

It is with deep sadness that the Portland Art Museum notes the passing of Paul G. Allen. Allen was passionate about art, and was both an avid collector and a supporter of the arts in the Pacific Northwest. Through his philanthropies he has contributed more than $1.5 million to the Museum since his first gift in 1997. Allen supported three capital campaigns, made consistent gifts to contemporary art exhibitions, sponsored the Critical Voices lecture series, and was a generous supporter of the Northwest Film Center. The highlight of his relationship with the Museum was the debut of Seeing Nature: Landscape Masterworks from the Paul G. Allen Family Collection in 2015.

“Paul Allen was truly remarkable in his commitment to art.  He was extremely knowledgeable, and understood how the arts could change lives,” said Portland Art Museum Director Brian Ferriso. “Our board, staff and I feel very fortunate to have partnered with Paul to bring some of the greatest works from his personal collection to our community with Seeing Nature in 2015.  It was a meaningful gesture among many that continues to resonate with the citizens of our city as well as throughout the Northwest.  He will be greatly missed.”
