If you haven’t already filled up January with your favourite up coming shows in 2020, then Californian purveyors of fine pop, rock and surf sounds the Growlers could be just the ticket.
On the back of new album Natural Affair, the band returns to Australia for a dozen shows all along the magnificent east coast, playing everywhere from Newcastle on January 9 and the Enmore Theatre in Sydney (January 12), to San Remo (January 14) and Torquay (January 17) down the beach in Victoria, plus the Croxton bandroom in Melbourne (January 16).
Adding to the excitement around these shows, Sticky’s latest mail is that Los Angeles rockers Starcrawler will be along for the ride, playing all 12 shows with the Growlers. Starcrawler, fronted by Arrow de Wilde, released their highly anticipated second album Devour You just two weeks before the Growlers released Natural Affair in October.
For tickets to the Growlers’ 2020 tour, which also includes Kingscliff (January 4), Sawtell (January 8), Wollongong (January 10) and Mona Vale (January 11) in NSW, the Gold Coast (January 5), Brisbane (January 6) and Frankston (January 15) in Victoria, go to lovepolice.com.au
album of the week
(Cold Chisel Music/Universal)
There’s a lot of love around the Cold Chisel camp just now, internally and among fans too with a big summer tour coming. The joy is palpable on opening track Getting the Band Back Together, a bluesy ol’ ditty, albeit tongue-in-check that chugs along nicely and sets the pace before next track Land of Hope splutters around a bit. Drive delivers a far sharper, tougher blast from one of Australia’s most reliable bands, be it on record or live on stage, while Killing Time and Boundary Street hark back to the Chisel of yore with all their grit, heart and finesse on show.
Ghost Town – Mojo Juju and Joelistics
The Old Southern Line – Andy Baylor
By Your Side – the Black Crowes
